Janelle seeks to cultivate a therapeutic environment where a client is fully seen and heard in a safe space. Janelle uses a person-centered approach that is empathic, supportive, and collaborative. She draws from trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, DBT, CBT, mindfulness, polyvagal theory, solution focused approaches and psychological first aid.
Multiple experiences inform Janelle’s work. She holds a Master’s of Social Work from Monmouth University and a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Wheaton College. Prior to working in private practice, Janelle worked in programs for survivors of human trafficking, sexual assault, asylum seekers, youth in foster care, women with crisis pregnancies and adoptive families for over 15 years, and she also lived in India and in Thailand. Janelle is married with three children and her spouse is a former pastor. Janelle is a LGSW in DC (#LG200001644) who practices under the direct supervision of Alysha Tagert (LICSW, #LC 50081003).
